photo; HBO 3. “The White Lotus” (Cristobal Tapia de Veer) No other score this year was instantly fused to its show quite this one. de Veer’s opening credits tune is something you can’t take your ears off of, a feast of sampled vocals and hypnotic percussion that stretches well into the episodes after it. That theme gets refracted throughout the series, spun out and pitched down into variations that keep that initial sharpness. As the patrons of the White Lotus buzz around the resort grounds, the music playing underneath almost has the feel of nature documentary. There’s a blend of sounds that flutter around like tropical birds with the pounds and scrapes that call to mind predators tiptoeing or sliding across the ground. And through it all, a mysterious voice calls out, breathing over each tense back-and-forth between those people we retroactively know are trying to make it out of this place alive. Like the season overall, it manages to stay in control and off-kilter all at once. —SG published By Steve Greene and David Ehrlich Dec 15, 2021 12:00 pm read the full article here Tags: Cristobal Tapia de Veer, TV scores 2021, White Lotus HBO
